Continue ShoppingOur Caliban Collection is inspired by natural substances found on south Mediterranean islands near the coast of Africa such as wooden beads, African recycled glass, carved bone beads, and coconut shell. Colors range from earth tones to colorful shells and glass.
Caliban is a wild, free and primitive character in William Shakespeare's The Tempest. He was the sole inhabitant of an island paradise until a usurped Italian duke, Prospero, shipwrecked on his shores. Prospero was accompanied by his young daughter Miranda, same age as the young Caliban. The pair grew up together until they came of age at which time Prospero banned Caliban from seeing Miranda. Eventually, when Prospero and Miranda return to Italy, Caliban reclaims his birthright to the island.
